Today was the 13th consecutive week of action in Alice Springs. We met again on council lawns opposite Scullions office from 12 -2pm. we debriefed about the national day of action last week, dreaming up creative next steps for the campaign. Then a few of us headed to the Royal Commission meeting at the chifleys which was their second public forum discussion in Alice. Although with seemingly poor promotion and notification to communities. The first question from the floor with Margaret to the counsel assisting was”Was the notification given to aboriginal people? when? and how long ago? I only found out this morning and had an hour to go and visit people in the community.” the response was that there was an email list of stakeholders. and that sometimes “things just fall through the gaps” – particularly when trying to engage with remote communities.
