human-rights-day-2016aWe will be gathering on the Uniting church lawns to show our solidarity with youth in jails. There will be a BBQ, speakers, an open mike and music.

Human Rights Day this year is about standing up and speaking out. Children in jail is not OK. Let’s tell them! Stop the torture, shut youth prisons, stop the human rights abuses.

We stand in solidarity with Dylan Voller, still in jail despite being eligible for parole. #freedylanvoller #shutyouthprisons

October 10th 2016 (monday; 6:30 pm start) and October 11 2016 (tuesday 12- 2pm) we have 2 events.

Monday 10th October, Uniting Church lawns in the Todd Mall, 6:30pm: we will be rescreening the 4corners programme  that caused international outrage by exposing the systematic abuse against young people incarcerated in the territory.
Here’s the facebook event: 4corners re-run – ShutYouthPrisons national day of action

Tuesday 11th October, 12-2pm, uniting church lawns in the Todd Mall: Rally with speakers including  Elaine Peckham -Arrernte custodian, Stacia Chester and mitch. This is the first week of Royal Commision Hearings and we are making it clear that this will not be swept under the carpet through bureaucratic recommendations. We need justice for our young people: therapy not torture, community based responses not child removal. The ministers responsible must be held accountable: give nigel the sack!
ShutYouthPrisons National Day of Action – Rally Mparntwe   We are calling for all youth detention centres to be shut down and the age of criminality to be raised to 18. No more 10 year olds in prison!
